The Greenville Haunted Firehouse was started in 2004 to offer fun and entertainment to local community. This endeavor has grown over the past few years and has become an attraction for people both local and statewide. The property is owned by Mr. Kenny Solomons, and he has graciously let us use it for this project . Without his support, the Greenville Haunted Firehouse would not be possible.
In 2004 we were scheduled to open and begin our first year of operations when Hurricane Ivan hit the gulf coast and continued its destructive path through Central Alabama. The Haunted House did sustain some damage and we were forced to push the opening date up a week. With the hard work and dedication of local supporters we were able to clear the debris and make the necessary repairs to get the Haunted House up and running. It has been a success every year because of the dedication of local volunteers and support of the local community.
This past year the haunted house was equipped with a sprinkler system, new emergency lightening, and more accessible exits. All of this life safety equipment has been added because our first concern is your safety. As the name implies, we are members of our local fire department and life safety is of the utmost importance. On any given night, there are numerous Firefighters, EMT’s, and Paramedics on hand to provide assistance if needed.
The money raised from the Haunted House goes to local and international charities. The Greenville Fire Department is a partner with MDA in the “Fill the Boot” campaign annually. We have given thousands of dollars to the Muscular Dystrophy Association over the years and have done so hoping that we can be part of the continuing research to find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. We also assist local families that have experienced the tragedy of losing all their belongings due to fire. We are able to assist them with shelter and food in the short term.
So as you can see, the Haunted House is great fun, but the proceeds are used in a serious manner to help those in need. We ask for your support this year and hope to see you in October.
